The island of Koh Lanta, is located about 70km from Krabi Town and is made up of two islands, Koh Lanta Yai (Yai = Big) & Koh Lanta Noi (Noi = Small) as well as many other smaller islands. Archaeological finds, on the island have led people to believe that the island of Koh Lanta is one of the oldest communities in Thailand, with artifacts dating back to prehistoric times. The name is believed to be related to the meaning of the word "Krabi" which means sword, and there are tales of a ancient sword that was found on Koh Lanta before the city was founded.
